Tales for Our Times-How the Rising Sun Helped Vivian Learn to Delegate

Inner Wisdom expresses itself most eloquently through images.  Through the process of Interactive Imagery you dialog with your Inner Wisdom and discover whatever it is that you need to know.

I am in awe of this process and of the beauty and power of the messages my clients receive. They often feel to me like modern mythology.

In Tales for Our Times I offer these narratives to you. May you find the wisdom in these Tales both inspiring and beneficial.

How the Rising Sun Helped Vivian Learn to Delegate

Vivian’s micro-managing got her in trouble.   Vivian knew she needed to delegate more and let her people actually do the work she assigned, rather than constantly trying to oversee everything. She found herself getting anxious, though, if she wasn’t on top of everything.

Vivian feared that if she stepped back, things might not be done just right. Her need to control everything was creating problems throughout her department and was driving her into an advanced case of burnout.

Totally overwhelmed, Vivian never seemed to get to the high-priority items on her
to-do list.  Involved as she was in the jobs of most of the people reporting to her, she struggled with a lot more than just her own tasks. This got her in trouble with her boss who pressured her to focus on the things she most needed to accomplish.

Her micro-managing also annoyed the people in her department.  They resented her
interfering style and unwillingness to delegate responsibility.

In coaching, we identified a variety of ways for Vivian to improve her delegation skills.
She knew what she needed to do, but found herself incapable of following through.
She felt stuck, so we turned to her Inner Wisdom for help.

When we asked Vivian’s Inner Wisdom what she needed to know, what appeared was the rising Sun.  The Sun simply said to Vivian, “I will rise tomorrow without your help.”

As obvious as this may sound, it had a profound effect on Vivian. She had known for quite some time that she needed to improve her delegation skills.  She had gotten this feedback in her performance reviews. Some of her more assertive employees had complained to her.  Yet when she received this simple message from the Sun, for the first time she truly experienced how preposterous her attempt to control everything actually was.  A deep sense of relief came over Vivian.

This insight provided a turning point.  Though she did not, of course, transform overnight, Vivian found it easier and easier to assign tasks to others and then back off and let them do the work.  Every time she found herself about to interfere she reminded herself, “The sun will rise tomorrow without my help!”

Vivian freed up time to focus on her own high-priority tasks.  Her productivity improved, which pleased her boss, and she experienced much less stress in her life.  The performance, productivity, and morale her department improved as well.  Vivian remained forever grateful for the image of the Sun and its transformative message.
